You Know You Work in HR When...

There are some tell-tale signs you work in Human Resources, from  snooping on candidates on Facebook to spouting off crazy acronyms only those in the "trade" understand and even  becoming the Jack or Jill of all trades at the office. There are many ways  to explain how you know you work in HR, but here are my favorites.

  1. Onboarding doesn’t make you think of an Olympic sport.

  2. You get that a Cafeteria 125 plan is not a school lunch program.

  3. Hearing the word “engagement” does not conjure up wedding imagery.

  4. You are aware that a wrap document is not a pretty binder for your reports.

  5. Total rewards is more than a discount program at the corner pharmacy.

  6. You know an H-1B is not a vaccination for your teenage daughter.

  7. Leading by example means more than being the first to do a cannonball at the company picnic.

  8. An applicant tracking system does not sound like a creepy surveillance tool.

  9. You don’t yell “Bingo!” when you complete an I-9.

  10. You know an employer match does not involve boxing gloves.

Sometimes we take ourselves a little too seriously in HR, don’t we? Remember to take time to laugh at things. If you're in for a good laugh, check out some more signs you work in HR.

What else would you add to this list?
